H. Jane Weddington, age 83, of Marion and formerly of the Marion Towers, died early Saturday morning, July 23, 2011, at Heartland of Marion following an extended illness.
On January 8, 1928, Jane was born in Buchanna County, Virginia, one of six children of the late Henry and Cathyrn McGlothin.
One day while working at a restaurant, Jane met the love of her life, Carl D. Weddington, whom she would marry soon thereafter on February 16, 1952. Together they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. They also owned and operated the Marion Meat Market in the 1970’s. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1991.
A loving homemaker, Jane enjoyed caring for her husband and three children. She had also “baby sat for nearly every child in Marion”.
An active volunteer and resident at the Marion Towers for many years, Jane enjoyed caring for her neighbors and helping them with their transportation and taking them shopping. She also made assurance calls every morning and helped prepare meals. Twice Jane was honored to have been chosen as the Marion Tower’s Popcorn Festival Queen.
A woman of faith, Jane was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge #337 in Marion.
In her younger days, Jane loved to bowl with her sisters, and had participated in many leagues over the years.
Having a heart of gold, Jane never turned anyone down for anything and took everyone in her family in if they were ill. She was truly “loved by everyone”.
Jane will be dearly missed by her son, Daniel (Valerie) Weddington of Newark; her daughter, Dianna (Keith) Ogle of Bexley; a son-in-law, Michael Decker of Marion; 10 grandchildren: Chelsea (Brian) Doerger, Erin (Joe) Klingel, Jenessa Weddington, Bruce (Mariana) Decker, Heidi (Harold) Beekman, J.C. (Crystal) Decker, Doug Carter, Tawny (Ben) Giles, and Joshua and Jason Lisheid; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Artie Rinebolt of Marion; a half sister, Vonna (Ronnie) White; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Jane was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Debra “Debbie” Decker on Nov. 21, 2010; two brothers: Marvin and Lewis Gilbert; and two sisters, Ruth Napper and Betty Hayes.
The Weddington family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 1709 Bellefontaine Ave., Marion. Services honoring her life will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor John Burr officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in La Rue.
