Charles Eugene Cordell, Sr. 60, of LaRue

Charles Eugene Cordell, Sr. age 60 of LaRue, Ohio passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his residence.

He was born February 12, 1951 in Kenton, Ohio to Walter H. and Phyllis I. (Meade) Cordell, Jr. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Marion, Ohio.

On June 5, 1969, in Marion, Ohio, he married Diana E. Justice and she survives in LaRue, Ohio.

Charles retired February 12, 2011 after 40 years of service with CSX railroad, first working for Erie Lackawana, then Conrail, followed by CSX.

The love of his life was dragracing.  Charles spent weekends with his grandson, Johnny at the Marion County International Raceway where he raced his 1968 Camaro (IRATE), and Johnny raced his junior dragster.

Charles is also survived by a daughter and a son:  Lisa (Chuck) Thomas of Waldo, Ohio, and Charles E. (Danielle) Cordell, Jr. of LaRue, Ohio. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive:  Amber Cordell of Arizona, Haleigh Cordell of Arizona, Destin Mullins of LaRue, Ohio, Whitley Cordell of LaRue, Ohio, Charles (Trey) Cordell III of LaRue, Ohio, Ashley (Ricky) Armbruster of LaRue, Ohio, and John Cook of Waldo, Ohio, Jayden Lee Armbruster and MaKenzie LeAnn Armbruster.  Charles is also survived by six brothers and five sisters:  John (Janice) Cordell of Dunkirk, Ohio, Joe (Jackie) Cordell of Texas, Walter Cordell III, Danny (Linda) Cordell of Alabama, Raymond (Debbie) Cordell, of Marion, Ohio, Mark Cordell of Marion, Ohio, Bernice (Tim) Utt of Arkansas, Sheryl Turner of Delaware, Ohio, Carol (Ed) Foreman of Marion, Ohio, Brenda (Keith) Gattshall of Marion, Ohio, and Belinda Scheff also of Marion, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews survive.

Besides his father, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Randy W. of Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11am at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion, Ohio.  Officiating the service will be Pastor Tim Pasma.  Burial will follow in the Chapel Heights Memory Garden Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home from 4-8pm.
