John H. Chaffin, age 83, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, August, 23, 2011 at the Marion General Hospital.
John was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on May 26, 1928 to Henry and Effie (Cooper) Chaffin. At the age of 18, John moved to Marion.
On August 30, 1947, John was united in marriage to Mary “Genny” Cline in Greenup, Kentucky. John spent 44 years working for the Marion Power Shovel Company as a truck driver.
One of John’s great loves was his cabin and 40 acres of land down in Southern Ohio. He was known for getting up with the sun and working hard all day clearing brush and splitting wood. He also enjoyed fishing. John will be remembered as a family man. He loved his grandchildren and was completely crazy about his great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish John’s memory are his children: John David (Margaret) Chaffin of Shelby, OH and Mary Kay (Ted) Lyons of Prospect, OH; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; Siblings: Chester, Roy, Lawrence and Terry Chaffin.
John is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Effie Chaffin; his wife Mary “Genny” Chaffin; his son Roger James Chaffin; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Chapel Heights Memory Gardens at 2PM; Friends may gather at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home at 1:30PM to travel with the family in procession to the cemetery.
