Shirley M. Gregory, 82, of Cardington

Shirley M. Gregory, age 82, of Cardington, died Tuesday evening, October 5, 2011, at the Morrow County Hospital following a long illness.

On October 27, 1928, Shirley was born in Waterford (Knox County) Ohio, the daughter of the late Harold Leon and Ida Frances Hathaway Lane.  She graduated from Chesterville High School in the Class of 1947.

Shirley married John H. Gregory on July 15, 1947.  He preceded her in death on July 13, 1997, just two days before they were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Shirley will be remembered as a feisty, outspoken, and strong willed woman.  She enjoyed bluegrass music and dancing with her husband.  She also liked to work in her flower garden, crochet, and read romance novels.  Many winters were spent doing jigsaw puzzles with her family.  Shirley’s country cooking was her specialty.  Her fried chicken was outstanding and she made the best pancakes in the world, ones nobody will ever duplicate.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her son, Larry Gregory, of Chesterville; two daughters: Penny Gregory of Brunswick, Georgia, and Marla Butler of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren: Lance, Arron, John, and Melissa; seven great grandchildren: Hayley, Angelina, Christian, Summer, Matthew, Lexcea, and Andrew; and a sister, Jean Kuehner of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Gregory; a son-in-law, Paul Butler; two brothers: Leon and Leroy Lane; and a sister, Olive Davis.

The Gregory family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring Shirley’s life and burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, 6919 State Route 95, Chesterville, Ohio.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
