James "Jim" J. Simpkins, 84, of Reynoldsburg and formerly of Marion, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on May 13, 1925 to the late John J. and Minnie May (Gates) Simpkins here in Marion.
Jim worked many years for the City of Marion in Water Pollution Control retiring in 1968.
He was active all of his adult life in the Boy Scouts of America and Harding Area Council. James experienced almost every aspect that Boy Scouts had to offer as well as receiving the Silver Beaver Award form the Boy Scouts, one of the highest achievements one could be awarded.
He was also very active in International Patch Trading. Jim was a member of the Euclid Avenue Mission Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marjorie Deloris (Spears) Simpkins; a son, Mike (Laura) Simpkins of Columbus; a daughter, Dottie Niedermier of Marion; a brother, Harold (Judy) Simpkins of the Carolina's; grandchildren, John Niedermier and Jay Simpkins; nieces and nephews. Preceding James in death were 4 brothers, Darrel, George, Sheridan and Archie; and 2 sisters, Pauline and Dorothy.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
