Frances E. Goodrich, age 91, of Mount Gilead, died Tuesday evening, June 1, 2010, at the Morrow County Hospital.
A lifelong Morrow County resident, Frances was born on August 27, 1918, the daughter of the late Jay R. and Ethel A. (Beckley) Woodruff.
She was a graduate of Mount Gilead High School.
Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead since March 27, 1932, where she taught Sunday school for over 20 years, was the Sunday school secretary-treasurer, and also served as the superintendent for the primary and beginner classes.
Frances was a member of the Williamsport Grange since 1936, when it was referred to as the Gilead Grange; later becoming Adams Grange. She served as the Chaplain for the Grange and became a 65 year member in 2006.
Before Whetstone Industries was created, Frances acted as school transportation for several handicapped children in the surrounding communities.
In her spare time, Frances enjoyed gardening and sewing; especially quilts. She also liked to play many different board and card games and also dabbled in playing guitar. She always found joy in spending time with family and friends.
Frances will be dearly missed by two sons: Allen E. Goodrich of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Dan M. Goodrich of Columbus; five grandchildren: Barbara, Betsy, Bobbie, Troy, and Steven; many great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Goodrich of Crestline, Ohio; nephews, Jay R. Woodruff and Rev. Dr. John Stoll; nieces, Irene Gould, Dorothy Mae Keller, and Joanna Stoll; and all of the wonderful family, friends and neighbors who always helped take care of her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Foye Allen Goodrich; a son, John R. Goodrich; infant daughter, Shirley M. Goodrich; brothers, Paul & Ralph Woodruff; sisters, Edith E. Beardsley, Mildred Barler, and Mary Elizabeth Woodruff; and a niece, Della Dewey.
Friends may call from 12 – 2 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, 51 W. High St., Mount Gilead, where services celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joshua Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
