Marion Public Health Adopts New Plumbing Registration Rule

The Marion Public Health Board of Health recently adopted Resolution #2012-002 which will require all plumbers doing residential work that requires a permit to be state licensed. Currently, only plumbers that work on a commercial building must be state licensed. The new requirement begins January 1, 2013.

Marion Public Health says this new requirement provides for an increased assurance that registered plumbers are working in a manner to protect the public’s health that can result from cross connection, backflow, and other issues.

This new regulation does not pertain to those plumbers that are only doing minor repair work on residential homes.

A free class is being offered locally by the state for all residential plumbers wishing to take the State License test. The class will be offered on June 12th, 2012 from 8:00 am to approximately 1:30 pm at the Marion County Building, 222 W Center St in the Prospect Room (located in the lower level).

A representative from the State licensing board will be there to help with questions and applications. Ralph Reeb from the State Building Department will be there to review the plumbing codes. There is a $25 application fee for state licensing.

If you have any questions about the application process or the class, you may contact Carol Ross at 1-614-644-3493 or Ralph Reeb at 1-614- 644-3153 or Bill Coleman at 740-387-2875 x 215.

Marion Public Health is asking anyone interested in attending the class to RSVP by June 6th, 2012 by calling 740-387-2875 x 226
