Dog Collar Stolen from Harding Home

The Marion Police Department is investigating a break-in at the Harding Home. Police say a dog collar made for President Warren G. Harding’s Airedale Terrier appears to be the only thing taken. This is the first such incident to have occurred at the Harding Home in at least the last 20 years.

Investigators say that sometime between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning a suspect(s) used a ladder to break in a second floor window.

The dog collar was on display in the home and dates from 1923. The dog’s name “Laddie Boy” is engraved in raised letters on the center of the collar. In a heart shape on one side of the name are the words “From Alaska’s golden heart.” In one heart on the other side of the name is “Fairbanks July 16th 1923.” The metal pendants and decorations on the collar were made from pure gold.

The investigation is ongoing. It is unknown if the Harding Home was a victim of someone targeting historical sites. Law enforcement and the Ohio Historical Society are working together to disseminate this information along with a picture of the collar.

If anyone has information about this break in or sees anything on the internet, you are urged to call the Marion Police Department at 740-387-2525 or call the anonymous TIPS Line 740-387-TIPS (8477).
