Health Dept To Honor Logo Design Winner

The Marion Public Health board will meet in a regular session on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 5:00pm in the conference room of the Public Health Wing of Marion General Hospital.

The board will recognize Robin Coykendall as the winner of the Marion Public Health logo contest. Robin’s design will be available for preview.

Threat Causes Lock Down At Pleasant High School

Pleasant Schools Superintendent Steve Larcomb issued notices to parents on Monday that a student reported a threat that was made against the school and that the campus had gone into a standard lock down.

Video Highlights National Robotics Challenge In Marion

The National Robotics Championships were in Marion late last week. The annual event brings hundreds of students from all over to compete in various challenges involving robots.

The challenges involved all types of tasks, including running obstical courses, practical applications, sumo, and even hockey.

Group Urges Rejection Of FirstEnergy Rate Plan

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) should reject an agreement among FirstEnergy, the PUCO staff and others to establish an electric security plan from June 2011-May 2014. The PUCO should instead issue a decision on the utility’s pending market rate offer case, the Office of the Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) said in testimony filed last week.

The OCC has concerns about many issues proposed under FirstEnergy’s electric security plan agreement. They include:

Marion Senior Center Celebrating 45 Years

The Marion Senior Center is celebrating 45 years of serving the area with an Anniversary Dinner on Thursday, April 29 at 12:00 p.m.

The meal includes baked Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable salad, roll and butter, anniversary cake and beverage. Tickets are $6.00 and are available through Friday, April 23, or until they are all sold whichever comes first.

Following the meal there will be entertainment by Inchant, a Vocal Collage.

To commemorate the occasion a special gift will be given to all who attend, along with many door prizes.

Free Career and Education Fair at Marion Campus

Students, alumni, and members of the area community are invited to attend the Marion Campus Career and Education Fair, Tuesday, April 20, 2010. To date the event has approximately 50 area employers, education agencies, colleges and universities signed up to participate.

Blossom Walk at Marion Orchard

Lawrence Orchards will be holding their first annual Blossom Walk on Sunday, April 18, from 2:00 to 5:00pm. The orchard’s 20 acres of fruit trees will be in bloom with an assortment of apple, peach and plum trees.
