Absentee Ballots Now Available

Absentee ballots for the May 4, 2010 Primary Election are now available at the Marion County Board of Elections office.

Absentees may be voted at the board office, 222 West Center Street, Marion, during regular hours Monday thru Friday.

“Steel Magnolias” Dinner Theatre At The Palace

The Palace Theatre presents a dinner theatre production of Steel Magnolias in the May Pavilion Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17 (6:00 p.m. dinner, 7:30 p.m. show) and Sunday, April 18 (12:30 p.m. dinner, 2:00 p.m. show).

Tina Salamone, with thirty years experience in theatre, takes the reins as Director of a production for the first time since coming to Marion as Executive Director of the Palace.

Event Raises Thousands For Cancer Society

bluefusion entertainment center & Jazzercise raised close to $4000.00 for the American Cancer Society through the event ”Laugh for Life” which was held in Poppy’s Sports Bar & Grille, located inside bluefusion entertainment on Saturday, March 20th, 2010.

Women’s Business Council Goes Green

The April luncheon meeting for Women’s Business Council takes a look at the growing trend of living green, presented by Angie Carbetta, Marion County Recycling & Litter Prevention, Director and Environmental Educator.

The luncheon will be Monday, April 12 at the Country Gatherings, 1775 Marion-Waldo Rd, Marion. The program is slated to start with networking at 11:30 a.m.

Five Honored For “Heroic Actions”

Five citizens were honored Friday by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their heroic actions following a one-vehicle crash on January 22, 2010, on State Route 100 in Marion County.

Jeffrey Ault, Delilah Ault, Thomas Howison, all three of Galion, Gary Blum, of Shelby and Tony Perry, of Lexington, were each presented with a Certificate of Recognition by Lt. Chuck Jones, Commander of the Patrol’s Marion Post, for their selfless actions to remove a crash victim from a burning vehicle without regard for their own safety.

Police Make Arrests For Alleged Counterfeit Bills

The Marion City Police Department says that on March 30, at approximately 8:36pm, a male subject entered the Speedway gas station on Delaware Avenue and attempted to purchase merchandise with counterfeit $20 bills.

The clerk told police she noticed a difference in the bills and verified they were not legitimate when the bills were marked with a currency pen. The clerk kept the bills and the subject paid for his purchase with real money.

According to police, the suspect was later identified as Joey Lee Callahan, 23, of 253 Libby Lane.

The MARMET / METRICH Drug Task Force has announced the conclusion of a five month long drug trafficking investigation as of April 2, 2010. The task force says the investigation has led to eight arrests, with several more pending.

On March 31, 2010, Rbancshares, Inc. finalized closing arrangements on The Ohio State Bank headquartered in Marion, Ohio. With the finalized closing, Rbancshares, Inc. (“RBS”) is providing $7 million in new capital to The Ohio State Bank.

The new capital is to be used to restore The Ohio State Bank’s regulatory capital ratios which now exceed the regulatory definition of a well-capitalized bank.
