The Academy Award-winning 2014 film “12 Years A Slave” is based on the incredible true-story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom during the pre-Civil War United States.  Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty at the hands of a malevolent slave owner, as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist will forever alter his life.

The film earned three Oscars in March 2014 for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong‘O ) and Best Screen Play Adaptation. This movie is rated R for violence/cruelty, some nudity and brief sexuality and runs 2 hours, 14 minutes.

Movie tickets for all Palace films are $4/Adults, $3/Seniors (62 & over), $2/Children (12 and under).  For more information call the Marion Palace Theatre Box Office at 740-383-2101 or visit www.marionpalace.org.
