The community is invited to an official unveiling event, planned for Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Marion Public Library. The event will celebrate the completion of a redesign project that has been ongoing for several months.

The library will open at 1:00 PM, with a ribbon cutting by the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce scheduled for 1:30 PM, and will include the long-awaited hatching of a giant egg that was “discovered while working on the new Kids Area”.

Festivities are planned for the 1:30 PM ribbon cutting which will officially open the redesigned Kids Area, with treats and goodie bags for children in attendance.  The Library will be welcoming visitors until closing at 4:00 PM.  During this time, the Library’s new BookMarket, will be open for business.  The BookMarket is a new book store/gift shop operated by the BookMarks, a non-profit group with the mission of supporting the Library.

Regular visitors to the Library may have noticed the giant mystery egg that has been on display for the month of December.  A Library spokesperson claims that this item was “found” during the redesign project in the new Kids Area, and after “extensive testing,” it was determined that a hatch date of January 10th is expected.  The community has been encouraged to submit their guesses as to the identity of what might be inside.

The ribbon cutting event is being held on a Sunday to highlight new operating hours for the Library in 2016, which will include Sundays from Labor Day through Memorial Day.  The hours for the New Year are as follows: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Friday and Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM; and Sundays, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  The Library’s branches in Caledonia, LaRue, and Prospect will each be open two additional hours each week on Mondays and Thursday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The public is invited to join in on the celebration and discover all of the changes for themselves. The Library can be contacted at 740-387-0992, or you can visit their website at marionlibrary.org for more information.
