Heidelberg University and Marion Technical College have sealed the deal on an agreement that they say will allow MTC students a seamless transfer to Heidelberg with a new dual admission and transfer partnership.
Administrators from both institutions gathered at Marion Technical College on Thursday to sign the articulation agreement, the fourth such partnership established between community and technical colleges and Heidelberg.
Heidelberg President Robert H. Huntington reflected on the value of these partnerships in education by saying, “Heidelberg University feels strongly about the importance of partnerships to grow a student’s ability to continue his or her educational path. Partnerships like this put a student at ease because they have two institutions working together for their success.”
Under the agreement, Marion Technical College students who participate in the program are guaranteed transfer to Heidelberg with junior status toward their bachelor’s degree. The added bonus to this particular agreement is the fact that students can be dually enrolled at both institutions. Students who are enrolled at Marion Technical College may enroll in one class at Heidelberg each semester for a maximum of four semester hours prior to transfer at the same tuition rate as MTC. Students are responsible for lab fees and textbooks.
In addition to taking coursework simultaneously, students who take advantage of the dual enrollment option will be entitled to academic advising at both Heidelberg and MTC. They will hold student IDs at both institutions and have access to student services, receive notification of important campus events and can participate in extracurricular activities (excluding athletics).
All general education and other non-remedial courses in which students receive a grade of "C-" or better will transfer and be applied toward fulfilling degree requirements at Heidelberg. Courses completed at Heidelberg may be applied toward students’ associate’s degree.
Both institutions are excited about the opportunity for an added pathway allowing Marion Technical College students to complete their bachelor’s degree at Heidelberg.
“Private institutions such as Heidelberg serve our students well with innovative, cutting edge ways to assist them in their educational path. This agreement is an example of that,” said Marion Technical College President Richard Bryson.
The agreement already has three students enrolled in the MTC/Heidelberg Dual Admission and Enrollment Program. The hopes are to “add some zeros to that” and grow the partnership to include many students.
