Students, alumni, and members of the area community are invited to attend the Marion Campus Career and Education Fair, Tuesday, April 20, 2010. To date the event has approximately 50 area employers, education agencies, colleges and universities signed up to participate.
The event is co-sponsored by Marion Technical College (MTC), The Ohio State University at Marion, and Marion Connections Workforce Development. Marion Connections is helping provide support services for those seeking employment, representing several companies including: Whirlpool Corporation, Graphic Packaging, Mid West Acousta-Fider, and Sims Bros., Inc.
This event will be held at the Alber Student Center on the Marion campus. Employers, colleges, and local education agencies will staff booths from 10:00am – 1:30pm.
Employers will discuss career opportunities and job openings and colleges and universities from around Ohio will offer education options.
“Our goal is to focus not only on jobs, but also on the education opportunities available to prepare for the best career opportunities,” said Joel Liles, MTC Dean of Enrollment Services.
The partnership between Ohio State Marion, MTC and Marion Connections was developed to support economic development and learning opportunities in North-Central Ohio.
One of the special events is a “Employer Panel” presentation at 11: 30am, in which area experts will provide valuable information about how to successfully navigate the job search in a difficult job market.
Members of the panel include, Michelle Roberts, vice president of human resources at Goodwill Industries; Mike Talcott, human resources manager at Treca, Inc.; Christina MacGroder, recruiter for A-Z Health Care, and Brenda McKinnon, director of human resources at MTC.
“This is always one of the most popular segments the career fair and should give participants an inside track on how to get hired”, commented Liles.
Marion Connections Workforce Development will present “How to Interview and Dress for Success” at various times during the career and education fair in the Alber Student Center, Room 111B.
The Marion Campus Career and Education Fair planning committee includes, Deb Murphy, MTC; Tami Galloway, MTC; Sheryl Rossi, MTC; Joel Liles, MTC; Will Smith, Ohio State Marion; and Cortney Dodge, and Marion Connections.
