Heroin Discovered In Jail Search

A search at the Multi-County Correctional Center resulted in the discovery of heroin and the re-arrest of a Kenton man. On Monday, April 19, around 6:00pm, the MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force detectives and their K-9 Kilo conducted the drug search at the request of the jail director.

Major Aaron Corwin and Lt. BJ Gruber, unit supervisors, say Marion City Police and MARMET-METRICH K-9’s have conducted drug searches at the jail in the past at the request of Director Dale Osborn. The supervisors say Osborn has remained aggressive in his position to maintain a drug free facility.

As a result of the search on Monday, officers say they located seven balloons of heroin weighing 1.5 grams total with a street value of $250.00.

26-year-old inmate Kelly Joe Joseph, 442 West Columbia Street, Kenton, Ohio, is being criminally charged with possession of heroin, a fifth degree felony, and conveyance into a correctional facility, a third degree felony.

The MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force is made up of detectives from both the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion City Police Department. Marion city and county residents are urged to report drug activity by contacting the TIPS line at (740) 375-TIPPS (8477) or by contacting the MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force at (740) 383-3505. Callers can remain anonymous by calling either number.
