Terradise Garden Holding Annual Tour

For over 40 years Trella Romine has opened her garden in late April for public tours. This year visitors will be welcomed on Sunday, April 25 from noon until 4:00pm.

The six acres on the right bank of the Whetstone River are partly wooded where spring wildflowers bloom briefly and the landscaped areas contain annual and perennial flowers.  More than 50 species of trees and shrubs are growing. The spring migration of warblers and other birds bring them briefly to the area.

Terradise has been designated as a Natural Area of the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves of the Ohio Department of Resources. It is located at 1536 Whetstone River Road North about a mile southwest of Caledonia. Parking is across the road from the house.

Romine has donated the twelve acres on the right bank of the river to the Marion County Park District and the area is known as the Terradise Nature Preserve. It is open daily from dawn until dusk.

Also on April 25 the Friends of Terradise Nature Preserve will be available to lead tours. Markers identify 25 of the species of trees and shrubs growing there. The early spring may bring the large areas of wild hyacinths into bloom.

Access is from State Route 746 south of Caledonia to the Marion/Williamsport Road, turn right to the dead end and into the parking area for the Preserve.
