Weather Lore and Oddities at Science Café

The Ohio State University at Marion invites the community to the Infinity Restaurant in the historic Harding Centre, 267 West Center Street, downtown Marion, Tuesday, May 4, 7:00pm, for a free monthly community dialogue on science entitled, Science Café.

In this edition of Science Café, Dr. Greg Rose, professor in the department of geography at The Ohio State University and current dean & director of The Ohio State University at Marion, will lead a discussion on weather lore and weather oddities.

Apparently it was Charles Dudley Warner and not Mark Twain who said "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." At this Science Café, patrons are invited to learn a bit more about the weather, specifically about some of the common weather lore and weather oddities, like "red sky in the morning, sailor take warning; red sky at night, sailor's delight" and a certain rodent thought to be able to predict the coming of spring, and what meteorological facts (if any) might be hidden behind them.

Science Cafés involve lively conversations with scientists about current science topics.   Science Cafés are free and open to everyone, and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses.  At a café you can learn about the latest issues in science, chat with a scientist in plain language, meet new friends, speak your mind, and talk with your mouth full.  The overriding goal of Ohio State Marion’s Science Café is to overcome reluctance to learning about science and to make science less mysterious.
