The WMRN/WYNT American Red Cross Radiothon, a live, 12-hour, on-air fundraiser, will be held on Thursday, May 13th. The 10th annual event, a major source of funding for the local Red Cross chapter, will be held from 7:00am to 7:00pm and will be broadcast live on WMRN AM 1490 and WYNT Majic 95.9 FM.
Clear Channel Marion, the primary event sponsor, will help auction everything from tires to college tuition, from fine jewelry to hard-to-find baseball cards, and from garden mulch to deep-tissue massages – all donated by Marion-area businesses and individuals. The auction lineup includes a front-loading Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer pair with storage pedestals donated by the men and women of the Marion Division of Whirlpool Corporation.
You can preview the expanding auction catalog online by going to the Facebook page for the American Red Cross — Marion County (Ohio) Chapter (http://x2c.eu/0k). Click on the photo tab and choose “Featured Auction Items.” Other items, including lawn equipment, a gas grill, sports memorabilia and framed art, are available for inspection at The Alber Red Cross Center during normal business hours.
Even if you don't make a purchase, you can still make a pledge. The Marion Moose Family Center #889 and MCI Branch of the American Red Cross – Marion County Chapter are making contributions at the Clara Barton Society Level of $1,000 or more. However, financial gifts of any size will be welcomed.
The Red Cross also has a "Heroes" program, which enables businesses, organizations and individuals to contribute through third-party fundraising projects. For example, the Marion County Auditor’s Office raised $343 with a bake sale in late April. Hayden Townsend has pledged 10 percent of the sale price of his market hog at the 2010 Marion County Jr. Fair Livestock Sale. He's challenged other Junior Fair livestock exhibitors to consider making similar contributions. Kingston Residence of Marion will host a taco bar from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5th, donating the proceeds to support Marion’s Red Cross Chapter. Local restaurants — including Sonic Drive-In on McMahan Boulevard and Applebee’s on Mt. Vernon Avenue – will conduct special fundraisers on Thursday, May 13th.
The Chapter will entertain early bids on auction items through May 12th. Persons interested in placing bids prior to the auction may call 740-725-9141 for more information. When the auction goes live on May 13th, bidding must be submitted by phone only, using a dedicated line: 740-725-0099.
