Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday

You can rid your home of toxic waste at Marion's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, June 12th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Whirlpool Corporation on Marion-Agosta Road/Route 95 West.

Residents of the DKMM (Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow) Solid Waste District can take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of corrosives, flammables, and  poisons such as household cleaners, pool chemicals, batteries, kerosene, automotive fluids, pesticides, propane cylinders, fertilizers, mercury, and ammunition (50 calibers or less). Cell phones, computers and tires will also be accepted, but absolutely NO televisions or paint.

Donations of $5/car and $10/truck are suggested, and please note that there is an extra charge for ALL tires.

Computers may be recycled on a regular basis at Sims Brothers, 1011 South Prospect Street, Marion. Mid-Ohio Recycling in Mt. Gilead (419-947-7440) recycles televisions for a small fee. Menard’s, 2400 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, recycles florescent light bulbs at no cost. Proper paint disposal now simply involves drying the paint in the can or pouring it into a box or bag with kitty litter or shredded newspaper, and then disposing of the solid paint in your regular trash. Be sure to recycle the empty paint can.

Local officials urge you to do your part to dispose of scrap tires, computers, cell phones and hazardous waste in the safest manner possible. Call Marion County Recycling & Litter Prevention at 740-223-4120 for further information.

The boy pictured above was helping clean up Quarry Park earlier this year. Dozens of tires and other pieces of large trash had been dumped at the park.
