Marion Technical College (MTC) students, 227 of them, will receive their associate degree at MTC’s Annual Commencement Ceremony. The event is Saturday, June 12, at 10:00 am, at the Palace Theatre in Marion.
This year’s student speaker for the Marion Technical College commencement is nursing graduate, Tiffini R. Pickens (pictured) of Marion.
Tiffini has spent the bulk of her college career studying and raising her two-year-old son, Joseph (Andrade). With the help of family and friends, who she is deeply thankful for, she has been able to achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
While at MTC, Tiffini had the opportunity to perform her clinical work at Marion General, St. Anne’s, Bucyrus, and Children’s hospitals. She said that each experience was unique, challenging, educational and exciting. The part that she enjoys most about her new profession is working with and caring for people.
After graduation, Tiffini and her fiancé, Joseph Andrade, will be moving to Pennsylvania to pursue her nursing career, get married and enjoy her family.
The 2010 keynote speaker for graduation is Tom Shade, Superintendent, River Valley Local Schools. Shade has been the Superintendent at River Valley High School since 1998. Before his time at River Valley, he also served as the Assistant Superintendent of Marion City Schools. Shade received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from The Ohio State University. He is heavily involved in the community with active memberships in Marion Rotary Club, Board of Directors of Rotary Towers. He is also involved at a state level in with various boards and memberships.
President of Marion Technical College, Dr. Richard Bryson, is proud to lead the commencement ceremony for the 38th year.
“I have seen many students graduate from this fine institution, and each year they face the challenges of the job market with a foundation to succeed. This class will be no different,” Bryson states of the 2010 graduation class. “I look forward to congratulating each of them in person on commencement day,” he adds.
Please note: All guests over the age of 2 years old “must” have a ticket in order to attend. Guests should plan to arrive early as seating is very limited.
