Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office had a busy Monday after they discovered stolen vehicles and a shotgun while training in a quarry. In addition, aerial surveillance led to the discovery of marijuana plants in a corn field.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was training at Quarry Park, off of West Fairground Street on Monday morning. Members of the dive team were training in the south west area of the quarry when they located a 12 gauge shotgun and two stolen vehicles.
The vehicles recovered were a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, stolen in November 2008 from Marion, and a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, stolen in October 2008 from Columbus. The vehicles were removed by the sheriff’s office dive team with the assistance of a crane. The shotgun was also recovered by the dive team. Marion City Police were notified and responded to the scene as well.
Also on Monday, at 2:32 pm the sheriff’s office helicopter located marijuana plants in a corn field in the area of Claridon Northern Rd in Claridon Township. The MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force recovered the marijuana plants from the corn field. Officials say there were seven plants recovered with a street value of $7,000.
Sheriff Tim Bailey urges residents to contact local law enforcement with information regarding crimes in our area.
