Donation Helps Ready After-School Program

The Boys and Girls Club of Marion County says they are thrilled to receive a $1,500 donation from the Marion Community Foundation to use towards purchasing supplies needed for the upcoming after-school program.

“Two of our main focuses during the after-school program are homework help and academic enhancement. These activities require; paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners, rulers, crayons, markers and just about every other school supply one can think of. We are grateful to the foundation for helping our agency start the school year equipped with the items needed to provide a Positive Place for kids,” said Allison Miracle, Interim Executive Director. “The program supplies purchased will provide an important academic advantage to our members.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion is located at all 6 Marion City Elementary Schools. Their after-school program will run September 1, 2010 through May 20, 2011 operating from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm or from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm depending on the site. Members will participate in outdoor play, gym time, snack, homework help and academic enhancement activities along with accredited programming provided through Boys and Girls Club of America.
