The Marion Popcorn Festival has named Mario Messina as the entertainment for the Palace Theatre on Thursday afternoon, September 9, at 2:00. Messina’s performance will feature timeless hits from the ‘50s and ‘60s, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and more. As with all Festival entertainment, this performance is free to the public.
Messina has over 40 years experience in the music industry, traveling all over the United States and Canada to perform his craft. In 2007, he was nominated as one of the best solo entertainers in the Detroit area. Messina’s talents enable him to cover a broad base of music such as Motown, Oldies, Doo-Wop, Country, Rhythm and Blues, Rock-n-roll and Lounge Style from the 40’s to 70’s eras.
Over the years he has had the pleasure in associating, entertaining and sharing the stage with many groups, including, The Shades of Blue, The Reflections, Sam the Sham, Merrille Rush, Chris Montez, The Crystals, Rare Earth, The Frost, Kate Hart of Detroit Women, Casey Kasem and Jonathan Swift of the Dellsatins.
Messina has also recorded two CD’s, “Mario’s 50’s & 60’s Review” and “Timeless Classics with Mario Messina” – which has one original song entitled “Someone to Love” that was dedicated to his wife, Sandra. He is now currently working with a producer on a Third CD which will have original composed music.
Main stage headline entertainment for 2010 includes The Kentucky Headhunters on Thursday, September 9, country star Joe Nichols on Friday, September 10, and Blues Traveler on Saturday, September 11. These concerts all begin at 8:30 p.m. and are free of charge. South of Eden will open for Joe Nichols at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
