Ohio students taking the ACT college entrance exam have scored slightly higher this year and are better prepared for college than their counterparts nationwide.
A report released Wednesday shows Ohio high school seniors who took the ACT test in the spring averaged a composite score of 21.8 out of a possible 36. That's up from the 2009 Ohio average of 21.7, and it beats this year's national average score of 21.0.
Two-thirds of the state's graduating seniors were tested. Of that group, 28 percent met or surpassed all four of the exam's benchmarks measuring readiness for college English, reading, math and science. Nationwide, 24 percent were at or above the preparedness levels.
