Popcorn Festival Picks Wild West Theme

The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Orville Redenbacher Parade is set to step off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.  The theme for this year’s event will be “The Wild, Wild West”.

Festival officials indicated that, although the overall theme for the Festival is “The Big Pop”, the Festival’s parade and pageant events enjoy setting a secondary theme each year to give the events a coordinated look, as well as giving direction to the infinite creativeness of the participants. It was felt that the “The Wild, Wild West” theme would give parade entrants and pageant contestants a great outlet for their imaginative spark.

Currently celebrating its 32nd year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. Other events include the Miss Marion Popcorn queen, Ms. Popcorn, Miss Teen Popcorn, Miss Teeny Pop, and Mr. & Mrs. Wee Pop contests, as well as a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, a community showcase stage, and more.

The 2012 Marion Popcorn Festival, set for September 6, 7, and 8, is sponsored in part by the City of Marion.
