In recognition of National Doctors’ Day, Kathy D. Dixon, MD, family practice physician, was chosen by Marion General Hospital associates as MGH Physician of the Year for 2012. A media release stated, "Dr. Dixon’s unexpected death this past December was a loss felt by our hospital and our entire community."
"We lost a friend, colleague, advisor, and advocate," the release continued.
Dixon was a member of Marion General’s medical staff for 21 years, serving once as medical staff president. She also held membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, was president of Marion Independent Physician Association, and was the Marion County Health Commissioner.
Criteria for this annual award includes modeling the cardinal value by honoring the dignity and worth of each person; serving as an ambassador for Marion General Hospital; and devoting time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.
Additional nominees for the award were Subhajit Datta, MD, and A. Reignier M. Nohay, MD.
