Marion Republicans Elect Officers

Marion County Republican Party officers were elected and Central and Executive committeemen were sworn in by Judge Robert Davidson at the bi-annual re-organizational meeting Tuesday, March 27, at GOP Headquarters. All positions are for a two-year term.

John R. Matthews II, of Caledonia begins his fourth two-year term as party chairman.  Matthews stressed more active party participation and recruiting volunteers to grow the party.

Serving with him are Roy Loudenslager, first vice chairman, beginning his fourth term; Ken Stiverson, second vice chairman, serving his first term; Marden Watts, treasurer, beginning his seventh term; Sharon Russell, secretary, beginning her 13th year and Mary Shafer, parliamentarian, starting her fourth term.

Also elected were Karyle Mumper, serving again an immediate past chairman and Joan Steward, chairwoman, starting her 10th term.

Matthews is a life-long resident of Marion, a 1984 graduate of Harding High School, a 1989 graduate of The Ohio State University, and is Director of Claims Support for the Ohio Industrial Commission, based in Columbus. The chairman and his wife, Susan, have three sons, two students in the River Valley School District and one in college. Matthews represents Tully Township as committeeman.
