Nearly 30% of Ohio State Marion students are considered non-traditional, learn how to join this growing number by attending a free public information seminar the evening of April 19th.
The Ohio State University at Marion Office of Admissions & Financial Aid will hold a free public information seminar Thursday, April 19, from 6-8:30 p.m. to assist prospective non-traditional college students on learning the ins and outs of returning to the classroom and pursuing a college education.
A non-traditional student is generally classified as someone 24 years of age or older who has had an extended break from the classroom since their last formal educational setting. The students are generally married and/or have children, have served in the armed forces, or any combination of the previously mentioned criteria.
Non-Traditional Student Information Night will be held in the Guthery Community Room, Maynard Hall on the Ohio State Marion campus, 1465 Mount Vernon Avenue, Marion. The seminar will offer those in attendance the opportunity to obtain information on admission to Ohio State Marion, how to access financial aid and scholarships to pay for school, majors and course study available at Ohio State Marion, and information and guidance on locating community resources to assist with childcare and more. Ronald Meade of Marion Connections will be in attendance to offer specific guidance on community resources available to non-traditional students.
There will be special break-out sessions from 7:30-8:30 p.m., offering career assessment and counseling opportunities, which can be extremely beneficial in helping direct your education decisions by learning what careers fit your personality and skill set. Attendees will hear from other current and former non-traditional students who have walked the path of higher education and succeeded.
For military veterans, a representative from the Veterans Administration (VA) will be available to answer questions about utilizing VA benefits to fund your higher education.
A light dinner will be available for those in attendance. Ohio State Marion also plans to giveaway a number of door prizes, including a limited number of $500 scholarships to attend Ohio State Marion.
The Ohio State University at Marion is an open admission campus. This means, if you have a state recognized high school diploma or GED, and have never attended college, you meet minimum criteria for admittance to Ohio State Marion. Those with previous college classroom experience who are transferring to Ohio State Marion must meet applicable transfer criteria.
