Members and staff of The Marion Community Credit Union(MCCU) are dealing with a rare appearance from a non-indigenous bird – a pink flamingo. The flamingo appeared in its lobby at 300 Barks Road East last week and came with a single demand: to support “Ohio Credit Unions: Marching Miles for Miracle Kids” by raising $1,000 by May 11th.
The demand refers to the ongoing effort by Ohio credit unions, which have raised more than $500,000 for children’s hospitals through the Marching Miles campaign since 2007.
“The type of demand we are accustomed to dealing with is loan demand,” said Glenn Coble, Business Development Specialist for MCCU. “This is the first time we’ve had to deal with bird demands. We’ll do our best to fulfill the bird’s wishes, but we’ll need the community’s support.”
Members and non-members of the credit union are invited to stop by and contribute to the Marching Miles campaign by making a cash donation to the flamingo in the lobby. You can also donate by visiting MCCU’s website www.marioncu.com and clicking on the Marching Miles logo.
Marion Community Credit Union is a member of the North Central Chapter of the Ohio Credit Union League. The chapter is hosting a march to support Marching Miles for Miracle Kids on May 11th. The flamingo which has nested at Marion Community Credit Union will apparently stay until the march, or until the chapter raises $1,000.
“They say birds of a feather fly together, and that is how credit unions do businesses as well – – collaboratively. We are combining our efforts once again to raise money for children’s hospitals in Ohio, and if our winged friend from the south wants to join in on the efforts, we welcome his/her stay,” said Coble.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals generates funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of member hospitals/foundations and the children they serve. The annual Ohio Credit Unions: Marching Miles for Miracle Kids campaign raises money for the nine children’s hospitals that serve Ohioans through events at credit unions and throughout communities around the state.
