Terradise Garden Tour is Sunday

On Sunday, April 15, Trella Romine will open the riverside garden at her home, Terradise, at 1536 Whetstone River Road North southwest of Caledonia, for visitors from 1:00 until 4:00 P.M. The six acre area has over twenty-five species of trees and shrubs.

The herbaceous plants include three kinds of trilliums, Dutchman's breeches, wild hyacinths, Virginia bluebells, smilacina, spring beauties and violets. Paths lead along the river and around the pond. Visitors may see ten species of birds at the feeders including chickadees, nuthatches, cardinals, song sparrows, goldfinches, blue jays, and three kinds of woodpeckers.

Representatives from Buttermilk Hill Nursery and Natives in Harmony will conduct a plant sale on the patio during the tour.

To reach Terradise from State Route 309 at Caledonia turn south on State Route 746. Where it turns left continue straight and around the curve at the Thew Cemetery. It is the second house on the left. Parking is across the road from the house.

Visitors may also visit the Terradise Nature Preserve. It is across the river from the Romine home off State Route 746 at the dead end of the Marion/Williamsport Road. Here there is a shelter house and picnic tables.
