Palace Theatre Set to Present “Annie”

The Marion Palace Theatre will stage the award-winning Broadway musical "Annie "for five performances.  Show dates are scheduled for July 14, 20, and 21 at 8:00 p.m. and July 15 and 22 at 2:00 p.m.  Ticket sales begin Monday, June 4 at 9 a.m.  Patrons are encouraged to order tickets early for the best available seating.

A family favorite since it premiered on Broadway in 1977, "Annie" features a cast of over 100 members, performing such familiar songs as "Tomorrow" and "It's a Hard Knock Life."  Joined by her beloved dog Sandy, Daddy Warbucks, and the menacing Miss Hannegan, the role of "Annie" will be played by 10 year-old Sydney Anderson of Dublin, Ohio.  She was one of 96 girls who auditioned for roles in the show.  In 2000, when the Marion Palace Theatre last presented the show, 88 girls showed up for a chance in the production.

Sydney has developed a passion for theatre and the arts and has gained experience and knowledge through participation in Summer Stages for Dublin City Schools.  She studies voice under the direction of Green Camp native Johnny Steiner and also studies dance at Columbus Dance Arts Academy.

Director Clare Cooke stated, "Sydney is the perfect choice for Annie.  She is very expressive, has a beautiful voice and totally understands the character. She has a bright future ahead of her and we are thrilled to have her in the role."

The cast includes veteran performers Kristi Wink as Miss Hannigan, Bruce Cudd (Daddy Warbucks), Sara Wenig (Grace), Charles Groth (Rooster Hannigan), and Danielle Davis (Lily).

The Marion Palace Theatre production will be directed by Clare Cooke.  George Schram will conduct the orchestra.  Kristi Wink is the assistant director and choreographer.  Vocal direction is by Johnny Steiner.  Andy Harper is the producer.  Smith Clinic, Ohio Health, Marion Area Health Center,  and Marion Community Foundation's Mary H. Hollaway Palace Theatre Fund co-sponsor this summer musical with additional partnerships from Bob and Donna Bender, Dr. Brad and Mya Campbell, Commercial Savings Bank, Allen and Sharon Gale, Kris Lindstedt, John Scharer and Scharer Insurance, Jerry Wilson and Wilson Construction, Dr. Robert and Nancy Crowell, Dr. Jim and Anne Hering.
