Police Arrest Suspect in Armed Robbery

The Marion Police Department made a quick arrest following an armed robbery on Monday, June 24. The arrest was made thanks to the willing help of an alert resident.

At just after 11:00pm Monday evening, Marion Police Lt. Mike Shade was flagged down on Bryant Street by a person reporting an armed robbery that had just occurred. The suspect had brandished a handgun to get the victim’s wallet. Shade remembered that he had just moments earlier seen a person in the 300 block of Libby Lane matching the description of the suspect. By the time he got turned around, Shade said the suspect had disappeared.

Shade said a concerned citizen then told him that the suspect had walked into 317 Libby Lane. Shortly thereafter, officers located Corey Caesar, 20, of Marion. After completely some more investigation, Caesar was arrested for aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, and possession of cocaine.

“Without the assistance from the public in this matter, there is the possibility that this crime does not get solved,” stated Shade. “Instead, a hardened criminal is in jail, there is one less gun on the streets, and a victim is going to get her property back.”

The investigation was to be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for the filing of formal charges.
