Marion Palace Theatre Holding “Set The Stage” Summer Camp

"Set The Stage" Theatre Camps offers area youth the opportunity to become involved in the arts as part of the theatre's summer program.  Registration deadline is one week before camp begins, but spaces fill quickly and the Palace encourages those interested to register early.

"Set The Stage" Theatre Camp has become a summertime tradition for many young thespians of all ages and skill levels.  Youth who will participate in "Set The Stage" Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre are immersed in the production process and will learn lines and cues, prepare song and dance numbers, create stage props with art materials provided by Marion Rotary Foundation and perform on the Palace stage. This camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun.

Students are divided into age appropriate camps.  Children ages 6 to 8 years will meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon Monday through Thursday to explore the lost art of melodrama in a hysterical mini-musical entitled "Are You Serious?!"  The storyline is the classic 'damsel in distress' with an amusing modern twist that is sure to tickle your funny bone.

Students age 9 to 14 years will meet from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday to collaborate on the mini-musical "The Best Little Theatre in Town" about a beloved little theater company struggling to makes ends meet. Melodrama returns with kids singing, dancing, acting, and laughing their way through this Broadway-style show!

On Friday afternoon all campers will come together for rehearsals at 3pm and a final performance for friends and family at 5:30pm

Students may choose between camp dates July 23-July 27 and August 6-August 10.  Johnny Steiner, professional singer, performer and voice instructor will direct these theatre camps.  Morning camp fee is $65.  Afternoon camp fee is $75 and includes healthy snacks.

Thanks to funding from the Junior Service Guild, a limited number of scholarships are available to students based on need and artistic interest.

For more information or to register for the camps mentioned above, please call The Palace Theatre Box Office, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm at 740-383-2101.
