Owner Wrestles Armed Robbery Out of Marion Store

The Marion Police Department says the owner of Pop’s Carry Out turned the tables on a would-be armed robber and wrestled him out the door of his store early Wednesday morning. While things worked out this time, police warned that this is a dangerous action to take.

Police responded to the convenience store, located at 331 North Main Street, at 1:34 am Wednesday. They discovered that a suspect had entered the store brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the owner of the store.

The owner struggled with the suspect and wrestled him out the door of the business, according to police, and the suspect ran from the scene. A police K-9 unit responded to attempt to track the suspect, but was unable to locate him.

The suspect is described as a black male, 30-39 years old, 5’6” tall and approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, jeans, white leather tennis shoes, a blue ball cap, and a red bandana that was around his face.

“It is not recommended to struggle with an armed suspect,” warned police Lt. Matt Bayles. “Luckily the results this time came out with no injuries. Money can be replaced. A life can’t.”
