The Ohio State Highway Patrol made more than 26,000 traffic contacts this July 4th holiday. In addition, 4 people lost their lives over the two-day reporting period which began Tuesday, July 3 at Midnight and ran through Wednesday, July 4 at 11:59 p.m.
There were 378 incidents reported in Marion County. Fatalities occurred in Ross, Stark, Trumbull and Warren counties.
The reported incidents do not include reports from the Marion County Sheriff's Office or the Marion Police Department.
Despite the shortened mid-week reporting period, the Patrol made 251 arrests for impaired driving. The Patrol’s Columbus District, encompassing Central Ohio counties, experienced the highest amount of OVI arrests with 44.
“Impaired driving continues to be a significant threat to all Ohioans,” Colonel John Born, Patrol superintendent said. “The Patrol is committed to removing these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
Troopers encourage the public to continue using #677 to report impaired drivers or drug activity.
