Downtown Marion Filled with Annual Christmas Events

Downtown MarionThe downtown Marion area will be filled with Christmas events on Saturday, December 1, 2012. Those events include a parade, peanut push, breakfast with Santa, a free movie, and more.

Breakfast with Santa runs from 9:00am to 11:00am at The Warehouse restaurant. The buffet is  $7.95 for adults and $4.95 for kids.

The annual WMRN Peanut Push, which raises funds to benefit Junior Service Guild’s Christmas Clearing House, starts at 10:00am. Those who have raised funds will race to be the fastest person to push their peanut across West Center Street using their nose. The event takes place just west of Prospect Street in front of the Chase Bank building.

There will be free hot chocolate along with ornament and face painting at APEX Church’s Kidz Center, at the corner of Center and Prospect Streets, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

The annual Christmas Parade steps off at noon and will feature Santa, bands, and 13 floats. The parade starts at Greenwood Avenue and runs west down East Center Street ending at the Marion Palace Theatre.

The parade sponsors include Carroll’s Jewelers, Frontier Communications, Kingston Residence of Marion, Kiwanis, Kohl’s, Marion Blue Racers, Marion Manor, Partners of Marion, Primrose Retirement Community, Promo Costumes, and Storad Label.

The Marion Palace Theatre will host a free children’s movie at 1:30pm. This year’s movie is “Arthur Christmas.” The movie is sponsored by Tom Bostic, Nick Chilton, Daryl Gates, Ted Graham, Carl Hughes, Howard Smith and Lowell Thurston.
