Downtown Marion, Ohio State Bank Launch Local Shopping Incentive

Downtown MarionThe Ohio State Bank and Downtown Marion have partnered to launch a program called “Let’s Keep the Cheer Here” designed to promote shopping locally. As part of the program, $500 in gift cards will be handed out to local shoppers.

Pam Workman of The Ohio State Bank said, “This is an expansion of a coupon program we began last year.  In talking with our Downtown Marion manager, Karen Herr, we thought we could expand the program even more.”

“I’m so excited to be a part of this shop local effort,” Herr said.  “We have 25 businesses involved, 13 of those from the Downtown, and each provided a coupon and either a $20 or $25 gift card to their business.  This gave us over $500 to offer as a grand prize.”

The program will continue through Small Business Saturday on November 24.   The drawing for the $500 will take place on Tuesday, November 27.  There will also be a smaller second place prize donated by Blue Fusion.

The Keep the Cheer Here program details include:

Step 1:    Participants will receive a sheet of coupons to participating locally-owned businesses when they bring a non-perishable food item for a local food bank to one of the following locations:  Downtown Marion’s office in the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce/CanDo! building, 205 West Center Street; Blue Fusion, 1340 Mt. Vernon Avenue; the Marion Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, 1713 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road; or either Marion location of The Ohio State Bank, 111 South Main St. and 220 Richland Rd.

Step 2: Use the coupons in these great establishments and sign up to win over $500 in gift cards to locally-owned businesses.  The more businesses visited the better chance of winning.

Step 3: A winner will be drawn on November 27 for over $500 in prizes.

“Shopping locally has been a theme for me because nearly all of the stores in Downtown Marion are local,” said Herr. “When you shop local, everyone wins.   You support local jobs, our local tax base, and the very businesses who are supporting your interests through donations to local charities, your kids’ school, little league or pageant, and more.  When you shop at a locally-owned store — or even simply in Marion County — between $68 and $43 of every $100 spent stays locally.  If you shop in another county or online, virtually none of those dollars come back to help boost the local economy.  So where you eat, shop and play truly does matter.”

Workman concurred saying, “And now, with the $500 prize, you have even more of an incentive to visit our hometown establishments.”
