ACT Workshop Offered to Help Improve College Funding and Access

To help students achieve higher ACT scores, the I CAN Center of Excellence, a regional non-profit college access organization, is conducting a six hour workshop on Saturday, February 2nd 9 a.m.-4 p.m., (1 hour for lunch) on the campus of The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College, 1465 Mount Vernon Avenue, Marion, in Morrill Hall, Room 160.

The workshop will help high school sophomores and juniors succeed as they prepare to take the ACT exam to enter college. Technical college students entering a professional program such as nursing are ranked in order of acceptance based on ACT scores and will also benefit from this workshop. As students achieve higher ACT scores, they can expect to receive higher financial aid packages from colleges where they apply and also improve their opportunities for being accepted by their first-choice colleges.

Total cost to attend the six hour workshop is $75 in advance or $85 at the door.

Instructing the ACT programs for the I CAN Center of Excellence is Michael Short.  Short is a Master Tutor in a number of subjects including the ACT and SAT.  He scores in the 99th percentile on these tests. He is currently employed at the University of Louisville as a college coach for a new college access program, GO College–Louisville. He has worked in higher education since graduating from Campbellsville University in 1980.  Short was employed by The Ohio State University at Marion between 2001 and 2011. During his tenure at Ohio State Marion, he was instrumental in expanding Marion’s local college access network I CAN Go to College into the current regional college access program the I CAN Center of Excellence.

Applications for the workshop are available through high school guidance counselors or online at icancenter.org/act_prep.html.
