The Marion Community Foundation has received state-level bi-partisan recognition for its professionalism. Foundation president Brad Bebout has been reappointed to the Ohio Attorney General’s Charitable Advisory Council. First appointed in 2009, by then-Attorney General and Democrat Richard Cordray, Bebout has been reappointed by Cordray’s successor, Republican Mike DeWine.
The Charitable Advisory Council advises the Attorney General on issues related to charitable organizations. In particular, the council examines the training and educational needs of charitable organizations, develops model policies related to governance and administration of charitable organizations, and identifies emerging issues and trends affecting charitable organizations.
Bebout is one of 14 professionals on the Council, the only one representing a community foundation. According to DeWine’s letter, Bebout’s appointment is based on his expert knowledge, experience, and thoughtful insight.
This state-level relationship has borne fruit in facilitating referrals and action which has benefitted charitable organizations in the Marion community. Bebout says, through this position, he is able to directly help charities in Marion County and be their voice at the state level.
Bebout has served as president and chief executive officer of Marion Community Foundation since May 2000, coming from a career in law. He had been an attorney in private practice since 1980 and served for many years as a magistrate for various Marion County courts. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and Marion County Bar Association, previously serving as its president.
Bebout has been active in the community, having previously served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, president of Marion Noon Kiwanis, and president of the Palace Theatre’s Board of Trustees. He is currently secretary of the Stengel-True Museum’s Board of Trustees, member of the Harding Home Advisory Council, member of the Board of Directors of Marion Noon Kiwanis, and member of Marion Rotary Club. He is active in local community theatre.
