The Marion Police Department is continuing to investigate two armed robberies and one attempted armed robbery that occurred over the weekend. While police say they are similarities between the crimes, they cannot yet say they are absolutely connected.
The first robbery took place on Friday, January 25, 2013 shortly after 7:00pm, at Woody’s Place, 566 Delaware Avenue. Witnesses say the suspect entered the business, brandished a compact, semi-automatic handgun, and demanded cash. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 6’4-6’5” tall, thin build, wearing a hooded jacket, jeans, and light colored shoes. He was wearing a mask over his face.
The second robbery took place on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:47pm at Godfather’s Pizza on Delaware Avenue. This time witnesses say two white male subjects wearing clothing to conceal their appearance entered the building and one subject brandished a firearm and made a demand for money. The suspects then fled the store prior to the arrival of officers. Nobody was injured.
One suspect was described as a white male, 5’8 to 6’0, hooded sweatshirt, yellow bandana, sweatpants, armed with a handgun. The other suspect was described as a white male, 5’10 to 6’, dark hoodie, dark bandana, sweatpants.
The third incident occurred shortly after 7:00pm on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Five O Drive Thru, 1068 Mt. Vernon Avenue. The witness called 911 and reported that a man had entered the business armed with a handgun and confronted a store employee, demanding money from the register. The employee fled to the safety of a nearby business and police were contacted. Police are describing this incident as an attempted robbery.
The suspect was described as a white man, 5’5” to 5’07” tall with a thin build. He was wearing dark colored clothing and a ski mask. He fled the area prior to police arrival. Nothing was stolen from the business and no injuries were reported.
“It is our hope that someone out there will have information that could be helpful in this investigation”, stated Lt. B.J. Gruber of the Marion Police Department.
