Police Investigating Reported Abduction Attempt

Marion Police DepartmentThe Marion Police Department is investigating the report of an attempted abduction and is hoping to locate witnesses to the incident that took place Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at around 7:00pm a female reported that a male had attempted to take her 1-year-old daughter in the area of Silver Street and North Prospect Street. The woman said she was approached by the male who grabbed a hold of the child and tried to take her from the woman’s arms. The man claimed that the child was his.

The woman said that the man let go of her child after she threatened to shoot him. The suspect took off running northwest from the area.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’10” to 6’1” tall, 250-275 lbs, wearing all dark clothing and a hat.

Police said that a canvassing of the area failed to turn up the suspect or any witnesses. They are asking for anyone that may have seen the suspect in the area or has any other information regarding the incident to call them at 740-387-2525. You can also call the TIPS Line at 740-375-TIPS (8477).
