C-SPAN Bus to Give Harding Students Inside Look at First Ladies Tour

Students at Marion’s Harding High School will have the opportunity to learn about C-SPAN’s programs and resources on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, by stepping aboard the C-SPAN Bus during stops on its tour promoting a new original series about the first ladies. Fresh off of last fall’s campaign trail, the Bus has been rewrapped and is making its debut for a new season of tours and educational outreach.

First Ladies: Influence and Image, which begins February 18 and airs every Monday night at 9 p.m. ET on C-SPAN, serves as a comprehensive biography of the women closest to each of the 44 presidential administrations. From Martha Washington to Michelle Obama, C-SPAN will present a closer book at the lives and legacies of each of the first ladies.

In its 20th year on the road, the C-SPAN Bus will stop at key historic places in the first ladies’ lives, from hometowns to universities to presidential libraries, promoting C-SPAN’s educational and political resources for students, teachers and community members along the way.

Aboard the C-SPAN Bus, visitors can learn about the networks’ programming and resources through interactive technology:

  • In-depth public affairs event coverage and educational outreach
  • Touch-screen quizzes on the three branches of government, current events and first ladies
  • Online video offerings through C-SPAN’s Video Library and Congressional Chronicle, including archives dating back to 1987
  • Social media networking including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, YouTube, XM Radio and mobile apps

After a special introduction program on Feb. 18, C-SPAN will showcase the first ladies’ lives in subsequent weeks’ episodes as part of the first-ever television series to feature all of the American first ladies. For more information on the series, visit c-span.org/firstladies.
