The unemployment rate for Marion County dropped by a percent to 8.0 percent in February, down from 9.0 percent in January 2013. The decrease comes as 100 people left the local workforce and 100 more people found jobs.
The February rate is nearly a percent lower than a year ago when it stood at 8.9 percent, but still represents a sharp increase from 6.8 percent in November 2012.
Official numbers from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services shows Marion County with an available workforce of 29,100, 26,700 people employed, and 2,300 unemployed.
Even as the statewide rate, which is seasonally adjusted, remained flat from January to February at 7.0 percent, counties surround Marion also saw decreases. Local rates are not seasonally adjusted.
