Holy Week Events Announced at First UCC

First United Church of Christ (First UCC) says they have planned a very busy Holy Week. Activities begin on Saturday, March 23, 2013, the day before Palm Sunday, with their regular 4th Saturday community breakfast and Care Closet, which this time will have a little Easter twist.

On Palm Sunday, the church’s children will present a mini play about the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, with some help from adults, and the choir will have very special music that day.

During the week they will have their regular Wednesday evening meal at 5:00pm, and on Thursday evening at 6:00pm they will share a Seder Meal with friends at Central Christian Church.

All of that leads to a Community Good Friday service at First UCC beginning at noon. Brown Bag lunches will be available for people to grab a quick bite as they return back to work or wherever their afternoon leads them. Breaking from tradition, the service will be under an hour in length

The church will then begin a new week with a 10:30am Easter service featuring celebration music including the “Hallelujah Chorus” with piano and chimes. Organizers say this “walk to the cross and then to Resurrection” concludes a very busy Lenten season of service to the community and begins a period of growth as they journey to Pentecost.

Organizers say that no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at First United Church of Christ. The church is located at 326 South Prospect Street in Marion.
