Last Chance for Local ACT Test Prep Help for the Spring

I CANThe I CAN Center of Excellence, a regional college access program, has announced they will once again offer their popular ACT Targeted Tutoring Program.  The program is a customized 9-hour workshop, designed to provide prospective college students personalized guidance toward improving their ACT test scores.

The 9-hour training program will be conducted on 3 Saturday afternoons in March, for 3 hours each.  Tutoring sessions are scheduled based on upcoming ACT Test dates to provide an immediate impact on test scores.

According to organizers, the real benefit of the program is that it is limited to 10 students per session, to allow our ACT instructional specialist to target individual areas of weakness.  Parents are urged to sign students up early due to limited availability in each session.

Instructing the ACT Targeted Tutoring program is Michael Short.  Short is a Master Tutor in a number of subjects including the ACT and SAT.  He scores in the 99th percentile on these tests.  He is currently employed at the University of Louisville as a college coach for a new college access program, GO College–Louisville.  He has worked in higher education since graduating from Campbellsville University in 1980.

He was employed by The Ohio State University at Marion between 2001 and 2011.  During his tenure at Ohio State Marion, he expanded Marion’s local college access network I CAN Go to College into the current regional college access program the I CAN Center of Excellence, which serves the residents of Delaware, Hardin, Marion, Morrow, Union, and Wyandot Counties in Ohio.

Cost to enroll in the 3-week personalized ACT tutoring program is $350, including the course book which contains several practice tests.  Sessions are available for afternoons, with a limit of 10 students.

Spring 2012 ACT Targeted Tutoring session schedule:

  • Saturday, March 16, afternoon session 1-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 23, afternoon session 1-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 30, afternoon session 1-4 p.m.

The ACT is the most widely accepted college admissions standardized testing tool in the United States.  Scores are utilized to determine college acceptance and levels of financial aid and scholarship awards.  Students who prepare for the ACT benefit by improving their chances of being accepted to the college(s)/university of their choice and increased financial award amounts.
