If you grew up during the ’70s or ’80s, chances are a Little River Band album was part of your record collection. Today, the classic-rock band says they are stronger than ever as they continue to tour the USA and Canada entertaining fans. The band is scheduled to perform over 80 shows in 2013 and look forward to bringing their energetic concert to the Marion Palace Theatre on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 8:00pm.
The sound that Little River Band has become known for over the years is hard to classify. It has rock elements, a little country, harmonized guitar parts and lots of vocal interplay. The band’s collection of hits include It’s a Long Way There, Help Is on Its Way, Happy Anniversary, Reminiscing, Lady, Cool Change, Lonesome Loser, The Night Owls, Take It Easy On Me, Man On Your Mind, We Two and The Other Guy.
Little River Band originated from Australia in 1975 and quickly claimed their place as one of the greatest vocal bands of the era. Total record sales around the world have surpassed the 30 million mark with 16 hit singles by 1985, as well as gold, platinum, and multi-platinum album sales awards.
The band has undergone personnel changes over the years but the core energy of The Little River Band remains intact. The current line-up is comprised of Bassist/Vocalist Wayne Nelson, Guitarists Greg Hind and Rich Herring, Keyboards Chris Marion and Drums Ryan Ricks.
Bassist Wayne Nelson has been with the band for more than 30 years. He has seen musicians come in and out of the Little River Band family and shares his view on the current line-up. “We have the utmost respect for the history of the band, and for what Little River Band songs mean to our fans…but we always look for a way to bring something new to the stage. We have fun exploring new ways to deliver the songs – recognizable and powerful, with new twists that will delight those fans who like to listen deep and analyze.”
Nelson continues, “If we played the song the way it sounded back in 1977 people would think that’s rather old; so we just dress it up a little different. We love to have fun with people when they come to the show so it’s very interactive.”
Nelson expressed that even though the band is in the ‘vintage’ or ‘oldies’ category, the show at the Marion Palace Theatre is expected to be a good time had by all their fans.
“We’ve sometimes played for three or four generations. At an outdoor show, we have people there from age 5 to 75 come to see us. The music keeps getting passed on and it’s still relevant. Yes, the music came from a few years ago but we try to engage people to sing along and we try to turn that stuff into one long party or reunion and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a good rock ‘n’ roll show!”
