The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) could begin construction as early as next month on more than a half dozen improvements to a one mile stretch of State Route 95 in Marion County.
The safety improvement project includes new turn lanes, upgraded signage, striping, re-surfacing, wider shoulders, bike lanes, signal and drainage improvements from University Drive to Blevins Boulevard.
This stretch of highway has been identified as an area of concern on ODOT’s Highway Safety Program listing, which analyzes and identifies roadway locations and safety improvements with the highest potential for reducing crashes.
According to the data, in a three-year period there were 250 crashes along this section of SR 95.
Some safety improvements include the traffic signal at Pole Lane Road. The signal at this congested intersection will be upgraded and a southbound left turn lane will be constructed.
The traffic signal just west of Edgefield Boulevard will also be removed and a new signal will be added at the intersection into Forum Shopping Center.
These improvements, estimated to cost $2.3 million, are expected to be completed by the end of August 2013.
