OSUM Dean To Serve Interim Role at Lima Campus

Executive Vice President and Provost of The Ohio State University, Joseph A. Alutto, has recommended to President Gee the appointment of Ohio State Marion Dean and Director Gregory S. Rose as interim dean and director on the Lima campus.

Rose will serve in dual roles on the Marion and Lima campuses and assist Ohio State Lima during its leadership transition period.  Current Dean and Director of Ohio State Lima, John Snyder has indicated a desire to step down from the position in June 2013 at the end of his second term as dean.

Rose will continue as dean and director of the Marion campus, and he and Associate Dean Bishun Pandey will collaborate closely during this transition period.  The Lima appointment is temporary and subject to approval by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees, the interim dean appointment will become effective July 1, 2013.

According to Alutto, the plan is for the Lima campus to assemble a committee to search for a permanent dean and director during fall semester.

“We appreciate the willingness of Greg and Bishun to serve in these leadership roles during this transition and until we have identified Lima campus’s permanent dean and director,” said Alutto.

Dr. Gregory Rose has served as dean and director for Ohio State Marion since 2004.  He began his teaching career in 1982 as assistant professor of geography at Ohio State Marion, served as associate dean of the campus from 1994 to 2003, and interim dean and director from 2003 to 2004.

In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Rose teaches one geography course a year and continues his research, which focuses on the origins of various 19th century populations in the Midwest.  He is currently working on a book manuscript on the sources of immigrants to Michigan by 1850.  Additionally, he is researching the origins and distribution of African Americans in the old Northwest in 1850.

He has written numerous articles and has presented papers at professional meetings since 1980.

Dr. Rose earned his master’s and doctorate degrees at Michigan State University and his bachelor’s degrees in geography and history from Valparaiso University in Indiana.
