A suspect who allegedly stole a car was fleeing police officers when he crashed that stolen vehicle through a home early Sunday morning. The suspect and two people in the home were injured in the crash.
Officers with the Marion Police Department responded at about 11:20pm on Saturday, March 9, to a downtown bar for a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle’s owner was unable to provide police a description of the suspect, but did give his license plate number and described the vehicle as a 1996 teal-colored Buick Regal.
A couple hours later, at approximately 1:20am, the vehicle’s owner called police and reported that the suspect had driven the car back to the bar. A second caller reported a possible drunk driver to dispatchers and described the vehicle that had been reported as stolen.
The first officer arrived at the bar and said the suspect fled northbound in the stolen vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of North Main and George Streets, but the driver refused to stop and continued northbound at speeds ranging between 35 and 40 MPH.
Police say the driver then made a westbound turn onto Klerx Avenue and rapidly accelerated. The pursuing officer reported that he backed off as the suspect’s vehicle pulled away. The officer said he momentarily lost sight of the vehicle due to the distance created, but then said he say a large amount of dust or smoke at the end of Klerx Avenue. As he neared, he found that the driver had crashed through a residence at the southeast corner of Klerx Avenue and Catherine Street. The car actually drove through the house and came to a rest on the opposite side of the street.
The driver was identified as 23 year-old Cody O. Bosh of Marion. He was transported to Marion General Hospital and later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he was listed in stable condition.
Police say the two occupants of the house were treated and release from Marion General Hospital for minor injuries.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing by the Marion Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Marion Chapter of the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the home’s occupants with temporary shelter and repaid of the residence.
