The Marion Police Department says two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after officers say the pair was caught in the process of burglarizing a garage. Ptl. James Fitsko and Ptl. Jeremy McCullough responded to a Burglary in Progress call at about 1:00am on April 17, 2013 in the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
A resident at that location reported that she had watched two unknown subjects go into her garage. Fitsko and McCullough confronted the suspects as they were exiting the garage and say one of the suspects took off running. Ptl. Fitsko gave chase and, with the assistance of a neighbor in the area pointing out where the suspect was hiding, was able to take the man into custody without further incident.
Officials say Ptl. Fitsko suffered some minor scrapes and cuts from a fall taken during the chase.
“This is a great example of the public helping us out in fighting crime,” stated Lt. Matt Bayles.
Police identified the two suspects as Adam Rhoads, 21, and Nathan Van Buskirk, 19, both of Marion. Both were taken to the Multi-County Correctional Center on charges of Breaking and Entering and Possession of Criminal Tools. Rhoads is also facing a charge of Obstructing Official Business.
The case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for the formal filing of charges.
